Gerontology Center

Center’s History
In August 2015, the Gerontology Center was set to work within the Hospital.

Center’s Mission
Center’s Mission is to conduct scientific research in the field of gerontology and anti-aging medicine to promote healthy aging.

Center’s Vision
Тhe center carries out project, methodological and consultation activities in the field of scientific research on the aging biology and age-related diseases.

Objectives
  • Methodological support for specialized scientific research
  • Implementation of own scientific projects in the field of gerontology
  • Attraction of funding resources for the implementation of own scientific research
  • Participation in the development of gerontological care at the level of public authority consultation groups of
Priority areas in scientific research
  • Molecular aging biology
  • Study of age-related diseases
  • Study of the impact of social conditions on aging processes
Scientific research
  • Participation in implementation of scientific-technical program of personalized and preventive medicine integration in the Republic of Kazakhstan, the implementation period 2021-2023, Professor V. Benberin, scientific supervisor, academician of the National Academy of Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NAS RoK), Doctor of Medical Sciences. Source of funding: Ministry of Healthcare of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
  • Purpose: to assay genetic risks of arterial hypertension among the Kazakh population.
  • Expected result: to conduct a correlation analysis between 2.5 million single nucleotide polymorphisms and phenotypic data among 700 study participants, to form recommendations for practical healthcare.
  • Expected scientific product: 4 publications of research results in foreign indexed journals with a non-zero impact factor, methodological recommendations

  • Scientific technical program «Study of genetic risk features of diseases associated with metabolic syndrome”, implementation period 2018-2020, Professor V. Benberin, scientific supervisor-academician of the National Academy of Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NAS RoK), Doctor of Medical Sciences. Source of funding: Committee of Science of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
  • Purpose: to develop a scientific basis for a personalized approach to the disease management associated with metabolic syndrome.
  • Result: a correlation analysis was performed between the identified single nucleotide polymorphisms and phenotypic features among 3000 participants which made it possible to determine their impact on the progression of arterial hypertension, obesity, diabetes, breast cancer, prostate cancer, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease among the Kazakh population, and the connection with the prognosis of functional longevity was determined. The result was a management model for the metabolic syndrome and diseases associated with it.
  • Scientific product: 4 utility model patents, 22 certificates for intellectual property objects, 7 methodological recommendations, 23 reports at international scientific forums (USA, Spain, Russia, Sweden, Kazakhstan), 28 publications of research results, 19 of them - in foreign peer-reviewed journals, monograph.

  • Jointly with Karaganda State Medical University, implementation of a fragment of the scientific and technical program on the topic "Research of gene polymorphisms associated with myocardial remodeling and carotid artery remodeling in arterial hypertension among the Kazakh population", R. Karabayeva, Head of the temporary research group, Doctor of Medicine, implementation period 2018-2020. Source of funding - Committee of Science of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan
  • Purpose: to identify genetic predisposition to early remodeling of carotid arteries and myocardium in arterial hypertension among the Kazakh population and to develop methods for assessing the risk of their development
  • Result: a correlation analysis was performed between the identified single nucleotide polymorphisms and phenotypic features among 1000 participants, which made it possible to determine their impact on early systemic vascular resistance remodeling in hypertension among the Kazakh population, and determined the relationship with the prognosis of functional longevity.
  • Scientific product: 5 author certificates, 4 reports at international conferences (Spain, Sweden, Lithuania, Russia, Kazakhstan); 8 publications on research results, 4 of them - in foreign peer-reviewed journals.

  • Jointly with Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University, implementation of a fragment of the scientific and technical program on the topic: "Study of genetic markers of aggressive course of prostate cancer and breast cancer among the Kazakh population", N. Shanazarov, Head of the temporary research group, Doctor of Medicine, implementation period 2017-2019. Source of funding: Ministry of Healthcare of the Republic of Kazakhstan
  • Purpose: to study single-nucleotide polymorphisms that allow predicting the aggressive course of prostate and breast cancer among the Kazakh population.
  • Result: a correlation analysis was performed between the identified single nucleotide polymorphisms and phenotypic features among 4000 participants, significant ones were identified in the aggressive course of breast and prostate cancer among the Kazakh population.
  • Scientific product: 4 author certificates, 4 methodological recommendations, 8 reports at international conferences (Spain, Russia, Kazakhstan); 8 publications of research results, 2 of them - in foreign peer-reviewed journals.
