Master class on radiofrequency ablation of complex cardiac rhythm disorders

  10.08.2022

Vitaly Shabanov, an arrhythmologist and head of the department of complex cardiac rhythm disorders and electrostimulation at the National Medical Research Center named after academician E. Meshalkin (Novosibirsk, Russia), conducted a master class on radiofrequency ablation of complex cardiac rhythm disorders at the Medical Center Hospital of the President’s Affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Radiofrequency ablation is one of the most advanced treatments for certain types of cardiac rhythm disorders. It is a minimally invasive treatment because it does not require any incisions or access to the heart, but sometimes radiofrequency ablation is performed during open heart surgery.

Jointly with arrhythmologists of the Medical Center Hospital of the President’s Affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan, radiofrequency ablation operations were performed in patients after cardiac surgery, after previously performed radiofrequency ablation and occurrence of arrhythmia relapse, as well as in patients with drug-resistant tachycardia.

Five patients were operated using "Carto 3" navigation equipment available at the Medical Center Hospital of the President’s Affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan. During a series of radiofrequency ablations, different types of cardiac rhythm disorders were revealed: atrial fibrillation, atrial focal tachycardia, atrial flutter. Subsequently, the patients were transferred to a specialized department, and further in-patient examination revealed no signs of tachycardia. Patients were discharged in satisfactory condition. After 3 months, daily Holter monitoring was recommended to control the operation.
