The 1st Kazakhstan International Forum on Interstitial Lung Diseases Held at the Medical Center Hospital of the President’s Affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan

On November 7, the Medical Center Hospital of the President’s affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan hosted the 1st Kazakhstan International Forum "Interstitial Lung Diseases." The event brought together leading Kazakhstani and Russian experts in respiratory medicine, serving as a vital platform for exchanging experience and discussing modern approaches to the diagnosis, treatment, and interdisciplinary cooperation regarding ILD.

Welcoming remarks were delivered by Raushan Karabayeva, Acting Director of the Medical Center Hospital of the President’s affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Nasrulla Shanazarov, Deputy Director for Strategic Development, Science, and Education. They emphasized the forum's significance in advancing respiratory medicine and strengthening cooperation between specialists from Kazakhstan and Russia.

The forum's scientific program featured presentations by leading specialists.

Sergey Avdeev, MD, PhD, Professor, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Chief Pulmonologist of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, presented a report titled "Progressive Pulmonary Fibrosis: New Clinical Guidelines," providing detailed coverage of modern diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.

Roza Bakenova, Associate Professor, Chief Therapist of the Medical Center Hospital of the President’s affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Head of the Republican Center for Respiratory Medicine, and Chair of the Multidisciplinary Expert Commission on ILD, delivered a report on "Interstitial Lung Diseases in the Republic of Kazakhstan: From Mechanistic Understanding to Effective Diagnosis and Therapy," presenting national findings and key directions for the development of respiratory medicine.

Natalya Latypova, MD, PhD, Professor, Chief Non-Staff Pulmonologist of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Director of the Research Institute of Respiratory Medicine at NJSC "Astana Medical University," highlighted the organizational aspects of providing care to patients with ILD.

Galymzhan Togizbayev, Professor, Chief Non-Staff Rheumatologist of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and President of the "Kazakh College of Rheumatology" Public Association, presented a report titled "ILD in Systemic Autoimmune Rheumatic Diseases from a Rheumatologist's Perspective."

Galina Neklyudova, Professor at the Department of Pulmonology of I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University and the Pulmonology Research Institute of the FMBA of Russia, spoke on "Functional Lung Tests in Interstitial Lung Diseases," discussing modern methods for conducting and interpreting these studies.

Galiya Nuralieva, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor at the Department of Pulmonology of Sechenov University, presented the report "Respiratory Support for Respiratory Failure in Patients with ILD," covering modern patient management techniques. Alexander Dun, a Radiologist at the Medical Center Hospital of the President’s affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan, discussed the specific features of CT imaging in interstitial lung diseases.

Other speakers included:

  • Murat Mukarov, Cardiologist of the Highest Category, Director of the Clinical Academic Department of Cardiology at the University Medical Center – on lung transplantation in patients with ILD;
  • Madina Yesengeldinova, Pulmonologist of the Highest Category, Master of Medicine – on hypersensitivity pneumonitis with progressive pulmonary fibrosis;
  • Diana Nigmatova, Pulmonologist of the Highest Category, Independent Expert at the National Scientific Center of Phthisiopulmonology – on a rare clinical case of pleuroparenchymal fibroelastosis;
  • Sattar Yeraliyev, Consultant Pulmonologist, Chairman of the "Society of Pulmonologists" Public Association at the Regional Diagnostic Center – on the relationship between idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and comorbidities;
  • Konstantin Garkalov, Associate Professor, Deputy Director of the Research Institute of Respiratory Medicine at NJSC "Astana Medical University" – on the interdisciplinary approach to diagnosing ILD in systemic connective tissue diseases.

The forum concluded with a Q&A session where participants discussed clinical cases and exchanged practical experience and ideas for improving the diagnosis and treatment of patients with ILD. The lively discussion underscored the high professional interest in and relevance of the topics addressed.

Participants praised the high level of the event’s organization, the substantive nature of the reports, and the importance of strengthening international cooperation in the field of respiratory medicine.

The forum marked a significant step in developing professional interaction between the medical communities of Kazakhstan and Russia aimed at improving the quality of care for patients with interstitial lung diseases.
