Congress of Therapists: Patient and Drug Safety Discussed in Astana

The official opening ceremony of the interdisciplinary Congress “World Quality Standards and Innovations in Medicine: Focus on Safety” was held in Astana, organized by the Medical Center Hospital of the President’s Affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The event was attended by more than 600 therapists from all over Kazakhstan. The Congress was also watched live by more than 2,500 people.

The Deputy Head of the Medical Center of the President’s Affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan Lyudmila Byurabekova, Vice Minister of Health Yerzhan Nurlybayev, WHO Representative in Kazakhstan Skender Syla spoke at the official opening ceremony, emphasizing the importance of the event.

The Congress addressed the issues of prevention, control and treatment of infections, as well as the organization of infection control services in hospitals. The event also considered issues of radiation safety for medical workers and patients working with ionizing radiation. Deputy Director for Medical Work of the Medical Center Hospital of the President’s Affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan Raushan Karabayeva gave a presentation on the topic of “Global Trends and Local Solutions in Ensuring Patient Safety” and expressed her opinion on the creation of a safe healthcare system.

“Investments in patient safety can positively impact healthcare outcomes and reduce costs. And also improve the efficiency of the system and help restore public confidence in the healthcare system”, said Raushan Karabayeva.

The chief allergist-immunologist of the Hospital Galiya Tussupbekova gave a report on “Drug Hypersensitivity: from Theory to Practice. What’s New is there in the Diagnosis and Prevention of Drug Hypersensitivity?” According to the doctor, drug sensitivity has increased in the following decades.

“This appears to have been caused by increased drug consumption, changes in hygiene and eating habits, environmental pollution, and the effects of aeroallergens on the immune system. Epidemiological data on its prevalence are limited. Many are not documented”, explained Galiya Tussupbekova. It is worth noting that the event is timed to coincide with World Patient Safety Day, annually held by WHO. The congress was organized in a hybrid format (offline and online) with the support of the President’s Affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the “INTERNIST” Public Association.
