A professor from China performed a complex robotic assisted surgery on an epileptic patient at the Medical Center Hospital of the PAA of the RK.

At the Medical Center Hospital of the PAA of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Chinese doctors conducted a master class on the topic: “Using an operating neurosurgical robot with integrated navigation and artificial intelligence.”

Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, highly qualified neurosurgeon from China Shang Yongzhi demonstrated the intricacies and advantages of controlling an operating neurosurgical robot in practice. The first operation assisted by an artificially intelligent robot was performed by a Chinese professor himself. It was a complex neurosurgical operation performed on an epileptic patient - implanting the invasive electrodes for continuous recording of electroencephalography in patients with a drug-resistant form of epilepsy using a neurosurgical robot. The second operation for a brain tumor internal biopsy using a neurosurgical robot was carried out by doctors led by Talgat Yermekov, a neurosurgeon of the highest category at the Neurosurgery Department of the Medical Center Hospital of the PAA of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Both operations were successful.

Also, qualified doctors from Astana, Almaty, Karaganda and Kostanai regions took part in the master class on neurosurgical robotic surgery. In order to introduce the latest innovations in world medicine into hospital practice and provide patients with high-quality medical care, these regions also plan to use an operating neurosurgical robot.

It is worth noting that the operation with an artificial intelligence robot on the eve of International Epilepsy Day is one of the innovative approaches that give impetus to the treatment of this neurological disease, the most common in the world. Therefore, it is planned that this master class will open a new path in the treatment of patients with epilepsy not only at the MC Hospital of the PAA of the Republic of Kazakhstan, but also for doctors in the regions.
