Raushan Karabayeva: The best general medicine specialists work in our unit, adding to our strength

Internal Medicine Unit of Medical Centre Hospital of President’s Affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan provides consultative-diagnostic medical assistance and treatment to patients with various visceral diseases.

Hospital’s Internal Medicine Unit consists of 8 departments, represented by the following profiles: cardiology, pulmonology, neurology, rheumatology, nephrology, gastroenterology, endocrinology and rehabilitation.

Raushan Karabayeva, Deputy Director for Clinical Care, Doctor of Medical Sciences, High Level Certificate Physician will describe the importance of therapeutic department on the eve of the first anniversary of the Hospital’s Internal Medicine Unit.

– Could you please tell us about establishment of Internal Medicine Unit at the Medical Centre Hospital of President’s Affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan

Medical Centre Hospital of President’s Affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan was opened in Astana in 1997, due to transfer of capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan from Almaty, to provide medical care to civil servants. At initial stages, it was represented by a polyclinic, and later a hospital was opened with 22 therapeutic and 15 surgical beds.

In 2015, when the Hospital moved to a new building and the therapeutic unit expanded to 89 beds, 4 internal medicine departments were organized. However, soon enough, available beds ceased to satisfy the need, and it was decided to build a new building, which was opened at the end of 2022 with 213 beds. In the new building of the hospital, in addition to therapeutic departments, there is a large diagnostic unit equipped with the latest expert-class medical equipment and a rehabilitation center.

Personnel for new departments was selected carefully, we tried to attract the best specialists of the Republic of Kazakhstan to work in new departments. To date, there are 708 employees in Internal Medicine Unit - highly qualified doctors, nurses and nurses’ aides.

– What is the peculiarity of the Hospital?

The Hospital’s Internal Medicine Unit is characterized by multi-profile and multidisciplinary approach. The best general medicine specialists work in our unit, adding to our strength. Each patient is a new story. No two stories are the same, each case is unique. As a rule, patients with severe and complex diseases come to us from all regions of Kazakhstan. Highly qualified general medicine specialists, equipped with state-of-the-art technologies, high-capacity diagnostic unit, excellent rehabilitation unit, and most importantly,  multidisciplinary approach help us in stating accurate diagnosis and prescribing effective treatment for our patients. It should also be noted that personalized approaches are used in working with each patient, this also applies to prescription of drug therapy, and selection of a rehabilitation and recovery program. All of this not only improves patient’s health, but also improves quality of life.

High-capacity rehabilitation unit that provides rehabilitation in three areas: rehabilitation after myocardial infarction and cardiac surgery, rehabilitation after stroke and neurosurgical interventions, rehabilitation after trauma and orthopedic surgeries. All these programs are very important as they allow patients improving quality of their life and be able to return to normal life.

Now we are creating multidisciplinary therapeutic centers. For example, Centers for Respiratory Medicine, Gastrointestinal Diseases, Autoimmune Diseases were created, which are managed by leading general practitioners. These centers are designed to develop relevant directions, introduce innovative methods of diagnosis and treatment, and train specialists.
