Emergency Department of the Medical Center Hospital of the President’s Affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan celebrates its 25th anniversary

This year, the Emergency Department of the Medical Center Hospital of the President’s Affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan is celebrating its 25th anniversary. In honor of Emergency Medical Service Workers Day, we present you a specially prepared report, in order to acquaint our readers with the work of the department's staff.

The Emergency Department of the Medical Center Hospital of the President’s Affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan has been serving people assigned to the center since 1998. There are currently 49 medical personnel working in the department. Doctors, paramedics, dispatcher and junior medical staff, as well as drivers of vehicles are among them.

There are 3 brigades in the unit that provide emergency medical care, and 2 brigades on special services. The center provides emergency medical care in 4 categories, i.e. 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, and the last category - transfer of the patient to the hospital outpatient clinic.

The emergency service receives up to 5-20 calls a day for a variety of complaints such as: blood pressure, heart pain, sprained tendons, fever, abdominal pain, fainting, car accidents, pregnancy risks, and childbirth. It takes the emergency dispatcher 2-4 minutes to take the patient's complaint, depending on the category, report it to the surgical team and give the patient's details to the physician. Some calls are limited to a doctor's advice. In this case, a visit of the emergency team is not required.

The emergency department substation, which operates on holidays and without off days, is open on the right coast of the Astana city. This makes it possible to reach emergency cases promptly. Department staff with a twenty-five-year history, having a high medical education and expertise, tirelessly serve the life and well-being of each patient.

Zulfiya Salykova, physician

- In the emergency room, it is important that the doctor is comprehensively educated, qualified. The reason is that the initial diagnosis should be made correctly, based on the symptoms of patient's condition. If not, the treatment given can be detrimental. I got a degree in General Medicine, later upgraded my qualification in Israel. After moving from Kostanay to the capital in 2014, I still work in this unit, finding my place in this close-knit team.

Evgeny Sokolov, driver

- I have been working in this unit since 2004. My top mission is to find my way among the traffic jammed in the city, to save a lives without putting anyone in danger. In my almost twenty years of practice, I have never been late. I strive to do my job well and on time, despite the bad weather and the obstacles I encounter on the road.

Ilmira Mukushova, dispatcher

- First Aid begins with the reception of a telephone call by a dispatcher. Further, receiving the personal data of the patient, determining the condition of his or her illness by the nature of the complaints and transferring the patient to the medical team - all this requires speed. All this should last no more than 2-4 minutes according to the protocol. I have worked in the emergency department for over 20 years, and for the last ten years I have been a dispatcher. Previously, I worked as a paramedic on a team.

Aidyn Zhensebayev, paramedic

- The joys and hardships of our work go hand in hand. We have seen many incidents since 2013, when we worked in this unit. I remember, for instance, that we couldn't get a woman who was going through labor to the hospital, stopped on the side of the road and delivered the baby in the car. We also had a situation where a mother who had given birth at home cut the baby's umbilical cord. For ten years, our love for the profession grows with each passing day, especially when we feel the appreciation of patients as we perform first aid.
