NEW SOLUTION IN THE TREATMENT OF VARICOSE VEINS

  25.07.2022

Berik Kaikenov, Head of the Surgical Unit of theMedical Center Hospital of the President’s Affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan, conducted the first radiofrequency ablation of varicose veins of the lower extremities at SOVMINKA.

The operation was performed using new special equipment. The main advantage of this modern surgery is that it is minimally invasive, using an intraducerpuncture to access the problem vein and to irradiate it from the inside.

-It is one-day surgery, the patient comes for the operation in the morning and goes home in the evening on his own feet, and he is given local anesthesia. Previously, such patients had to make an incision and remove a vein, after which there was a long rehabilitation period. Now it is almost nonexistent, patients recover quickly. There are very few contraindications. In four years, we have performed dozens of such operations and there have been no complications,” said Berik Kaikenov.

The problem of varicose veins is very important in Kazakhstan, mainly affecting mothers with many children and the elderly. The new operation will make their lives much easier. Despite the fact that radiofrequency ablation in Europe and the U.S. is considered as a gold standard, in our country it is rarely done, there are few specialists and equipment.
