Without disregarding these symptoms, patient’s relatives sought doctors’ assistance. Qualified physicians of Medical Center Hospital of the President’s Affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan have conducted a profound study of patient’s complaints and condition and diagnosed an orphan Takayasu disease. Based on global experience, the first complex surgery was held in Medical Center Hospital of the President’s Affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Takayasu is a disease, involving inflammation in the aortic wall. Due to inflammation, cicatrices form in tissues, leading to vascular occlusion. As a result, vessel patency is reduced. Both open and closed type surgeries are conducted in global practice for resumption of patient’s health.

- The patient, who arrived to us, had complete occlusion of main bilateral internal carotid arteries, supplying the cerebrum, as well as vertebral arteries. Cerebral blood vessels were supplied by the branch of collar ligament, leaving clavicular artery. Intervention of cardiac surgeons was also necessary, as it was planned to block vein of aorta, running from the heart. Having studied the experience of foreign colleagues and using state-of-the-art technical capabilities, we have performed a surgery on the patient with Takayasu disease for the first time, together with Alibek Toibayev, Chief of Cardiac Surgery Department. As of today, the patient is in good condition, headaches are gone – says Islambek Mussabekov, neurosurgeon.

Though vascular occlusion is a common ailment, its treatment is a complicated process. After successful surgery, neurosurgeons and cardiac surgeons of the Hospital are ready to assist other patients with such a diagnosis.
