“13 surgeries a day – my personal record” neurosurgeon about his profession

A planned visit of highly qualified doctors of “Medical Center of the President’s Affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan” in Shymkent was held within the frameworks of medical day. The delegation includes the best specialists of Medical Center Hospital of the President’s Affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Central Clinical Hospital (neurosurgeons, geneticists, cardiosurgeons, arrhythmologists, oncosurgeon etc.).

Thus, the team of doctors of the Medical Center Hospital of the President’s Affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan included the highest category neurosurgeon, Mynzhylky Berdikhodzhayev Deputy Director for Surgery of the Medical Center Hospital. Standing at the origins of domestic endovascular neurosurgery, Mynzhylky Berdikhodzhayev was the first to perform many operations of such kind. In 2013, he performed the first mechanical thrombectomy and personally introduced new methods of endovascular treatment of aneurysm and arteriovenous malformation in brain vessels in the country.

Up to now, the qualified doctor, who is developing neurosurgery in our country, has performed more than 6,500 high-tech surgeries on the cerebral vessels.

“13 surgeries a day – my personal record.  That was in Ust-Kamenogorsk. On average, I performed 5-6 surgeries, but after my appointment as Deputy Director for Surgery at Medical Center Hospital of the President’s Affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan, I perform about 3-4 surgeries a day,” the doctor stated. Mynzhylky Berdikhodzhayev regularly takes part in foreign seminars and conferences, conducts joint operations, and exchanges experience with his colleagues from different parts of the globe. And these days, while in Shymkent, he gave a total of about 45 free consultations to residents of Shymkent, as well as performing complex surgeries.

“I have already performed three surgeries. Two patients had intracranial artery narrowing, so we performed endovascular stenting of the internal carotid artery. The third patient had a ruptured aneurysm of the internal carotid artery, which is a herniated bulge on the artery wall. There was a large hemorrhage. We sealed it with a blood vessel, in other words, we embolized it. Everything went well,” says Mynzhylky Berdikhodzhayev.

The exchange of experience within the framework of the “Days of the Medical Center Hospital of the President’s Affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan” in different regions of Kazakhstan is very relevant. Due to this approach, medical staff have a chance to improve their qualifications. In addition, it enhances the quality of medical services in the country, and the number of doctors who are capable of performing such complex operations.
