WHAT IS A ROBOTIC OPERATING ROOM?

Robotic operating room is a modern, most effective method of surgical treatment in urology, gynecology and general surgery. While retaining the benefits of laparoscopic surgery (when internal organs are operated through small holes on the patient's body), robotic-assisted surgery has a number of additional advantages.
1. 3D surveillance of the operating area and multiplication of image of the operated organs.

2. Elimination of the surgeon’s hand tremor.
3. Smaller incisions and faster recovery time for patients.
4. Reduced risk of infection or loss a lot of blood and as the result shorter hospitalization of patients in inpatient, less pain after surgery.

WHAT SURGERIES CAN ROBOT ASSISTED DEVICES PERFORM?

Doctors of Presidential hospital perform urological (cystectomy), general surgical (cholecystectomy), and gynecological (cystectomy) operations at the clinical robot of Senhance.

WHO PERFORMS SURGICAL OPERATIONS?
It is a mistake to believe that a robot performs operations in robotic surgery. It is only a tool for more accurate and effective work of the surgeon. In this case, the platform console allows for the surgeon to be seated in an ergonomically comfortable position throughout the procedure. The system helps the surgeon to perform operations with high accuracy of movements up to 1 mm, in the most comfortable position, sitting in a special chair.
Since October last year, the doctors of the Presidential hospital successfully performed more than one hundred and fifty operations on a robotic devices in the three areas, such as gynecology, general surgery and urology.
All specialists working on the robot-assisted device were trained at the educational center for robotic surgery at the headquarters of TransEnterix Senhance, located in Milan (Italy).

The consultants of the robotic surgery program are world-renowned doctors, such as Dr. David Samadi, urologist at Lenox Hill hospital in New York, who is the first in the world perform operation with a robot-assisted installation and Dr. Stefano Gidaro, professor at the University clinic in the Italian city of Pescara, as well as a consultant at the training center for robotic surgery in Milan. Invited specialists every two months come to the hospital to conduct master classes and operations together with the leading doctors of the Presidential hospital.

In November 2018, the Presidential Hospital officially launched the Kazakhstan International Reference and Training Center for Robotic Surgery that is opened at the Medical Center Hospital of the President’s Affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Project was presented to the President Nursultan Nazarbayev.

Surgical instruments mounted on the robot’s mechanical arms allow the specialist to perform a wide range of movements with high accuracy. One of the manipulators is equipped with 3D camera, which transmits the image of the operated area with high resolution. It is important that the surgeon controls the actions of the robot, controlling each manipulation.

The famous urologist, Dr.David Samadi started to use the new urological technology as one of the first in the world. An prestigious American surgeon has performed more than seven thousand operations and is currently advising doctors at the Hospital, helping to develop the new Transenterix Senhance system. Doctors at the Hospital, who perform operations using robotic surgery, also successfully completed training in Italy, at the office of the manufacturing company. The Project was created with the support of the Fund of the First President.

3D imaging mode is provided by video camera and stereoscopic endoscope. The movement of the endoscope in the operating space is controlled by the eye movement of the surgeon through the integrated AI Tracker system. The system allows operations in the following surgical areas: urology, gynecology, proctology, general (abdominal) surgery.

 

Advantages of robotic surgery: 

 

The advantages that the robotic system offers to the operating surgeon allow precise and delicate surgery. Surgical instruments of the robotic system completely exclude hand tremor (natural trembling), which is observed even among the most equable specialists, which allows an experienced surgeon to carry out jewelry surgery on the robot and preserve microscopic neuromuscular fibers.

 

Surgical instruments mounted on the mechanical arms of the robot allow the specialist to carry out the widest range of movements with high accuracy. One of the manipulators is equipped with 3D camera, which transmits a high-resolution image of the operated area. It is important to note that the surgeon controls the actions of the robot, controlling each manipulation. The robot does nothing on its own, but obeys the "orders" of the surgeon sitting at the console in the operating room and activating the robot's arms with the help of joysticks.

A computerized system of settings and scaling of movements aligns the manipulations of hands and tools, preventing errors associated with the human factor. An effective security system controls the process of tool changes during surgery. All this creates ideal conditions for the surgeon to conduct a surgical procedure with minimal blood loss and without complications.

 

The freedom of movement of surgical instruments with a size of several millimeters due to the zoom function and an enlarged three-dimensional image gives the best operational result with minimal chances of complications. The minimally invasive technique of conducting operations on the robot allows the patient to return to daily activity as soon as possible.

 

The sitting position of the surgeon during the operation, has a particularly positive effect on the result during complex operations, for example, with prostatectomy with reconstruction of the bladder.
